Autumn term is an exciting time in year 4, with so many new and exciting opportunities ahead. The children are beginning swimming lessons at Ashton swimming Baths, which they will attend every Wednesday. They are also excited about taking part in weekly drumming lessons on a Thursday morning. The start of the year sees the introduction of the African drums. Myself and my fellow budding musicians will look forward to inviting all year 4 parents to our drumming concert at the end of the Autumn term, when we will have the chance to show off our new found skills – Marsh Green’s Got Talent!
In English we will be focussing on a variety of class novels such as ‘The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe,’ ‘Where the forest meets the sea’, ‘Witches’ and ‘Polar Express.’ Our focus this term in English is to develop our creative writing skills and improve our vocabulary. We are also looking forward to reading for pleasure novel ‘Ratburger.’ Our favourite part of the year is when the annual Christmas John Lewis advert appears on our screens. Year 4 will be undertaking a narrative writing workshop looking at the hidden messages in this advert. We can’t wait!
Times tables will become the focus of our maths lessons with daily practise taking place. Our 4 times table is the first to be tackled. We will be learning about the difference between a number and a digit along with values. We will be focussing on a variety of mental and written methods for addition and subtraction, along with tackling word problems. This will be done practically, independently and through group work.
If you have any worries or concerns please do not hesitate to come and speak to one of the teachers outside the year 4 classroom at the end of the day.
