About

Marsh Green is a primary school within the Borough of Wigan and currently there are 428 pupils on roll from Nursery to Year 6 (374 from Reception to Year 6).  The school is double form entry from Year 1 to Year 6 and our PAN has changed to 45, meaning that we are moving to 1.5 form entry from September 2023. We have two nurseries and take children from 2 years old. The percentage of children entitled to free school meals is well above the National average at 56.4%, with Pupil Premium at 50.1%. The school was last inspected in May 2023 and was described as ‘Requires Improvement’. We are proud that a number of areas were described as ‘Good’, including: Early Years, Personal Development and Behaviour and Attitudes. We are on the pathway back to an overall ‘Good’ inspection outcome with a dedicated and committed team, happy and determined to support our fabulous children.

Marsh Green’s values are lived throughout each day of school life. Our children and staff ensure that they demonstrate our values, to create a supportive, inclusive and aspirational learning environment.

Our Marsh Green Values:

-Care for everyone and everything
-Show good manners at all times
-Follow instructions with thought and care

The Governors are very active in supporting the children and staff at school, visiting for assemblies and Governor Days. Our Chair of Governors helps support school in a range of ways, including the reading ethos of the school by reading to our weekly winners and providing high quality texts to continue to raise our children’s aspirations.

We also have an active School Council, where members are elected through a voting system, enabling children to have their say in their school. Pupil leadership is valued at our school and our children are able to access a range of leadership opportunities across the curriculum.

Marsh Green is a school at the heart of its community, and we work hard to makes sure it remains there.

British Values

Welcome to our nurturing, caring and learning-rich school. We hope you enjoy looking around our site; if you are inspired, please come along and see for yourself what we are really like in person. We are proud here to share our values with you.

Democratic School

  • We vote for and elect School Councillors, Peer Mediators and Play Leaders.
  • We can write a letter to our Headteacher at any time and she replies back after speaking with her SLT. One of our exciting requests is for a school radio show to play during our lunch break.

Rules of Law

  • Each class learns our school values and understands that we our responsible for our own behaviour by using the Zones of Regulation.
  • The school values are shared throughout the school and reiterated through assemblies.

Individual Liberty

  • In school and class, we are encouraged to ask for anything because we don’t fear people saying no. We have class discussions frequently and we can share our thoughts on anything.

Mutual Respect

  • We respect others no matter how we look, or what gender we are; or what race or religion we are. We detest any form of racism.

Tolerance

  • We respect and acknowledge that different children in school celebrate different religious festivals.
